Endowed with two of Kenya’s important natural resources;Lake Victoria and River Nzoia,Budalang’i in Busia county is only famed for flooding.
These resources provide a source of livelihood to the communities around. The resources however, are associated with the increased levels of school dropouts, teenage pregnancies and HIV/AIDS infection among the girl child in Budalang’i,Busia county. Thus creating the need for empowerment and mentorship.
Return of Sisterhood mentroship programme, a project run by two ladies,Miss Claire Nasike and Stephie Ojiambo(both university graduates),aims at mentoring young girls from Busia county to be the best they can be under the slogan,”i know i can.”
On the the 22nd of December 2014, the group held its first mentorship exercise at St.Cecilia Namenya girls in Budalang’i to girls above the age of 12 years.
With the day’s theme being “refuse to be average;unleash your potential”,a total of 200 girls were mentored on the importance of self hygiene, environmental conservation, leadership, teenage reproductive health, career and entrepreneurship.
Together we can better the lives of our girls. And yes we know we can.
